MALVERN HILLS – RURAL ENGAGEMENT

Malvern Hills Early Engagement

In 2014 AYOS were commissioned by Malvern Hills Early Help advisory boards to support Martley Youth Club address issues they were experiencing behavioural and sustainability issues.

The club expressed an interest in the Mobile Youth Unit providing positive engagement activity and workshops. We provided 6 weeks of activities and workshops for 11-14 yr olds including; Sexual Health, Drug and Alcohol Awareness, Aims and Aspirations and Teenage Brain Development.

The project consistently engaged with between 12 and 23 young people each week and gave them a safe environment where they could share any worries, build relationships and therefore trust, gain understanding and support if required and ultimately enjoy themselves. Due to the success of this we are running a similar projects throughout 2015 and 2016 and have already had interest from other rural communities locally, AYOS have currently made the MYU a sustainable/ self-funded resource for the community to utilise.

Youth club and school has seen an improvement in behaviour
The young people are realising they should take ownership of the youth club and need to have an input to ensure it remains open for the younger children to use
Now have a safe space where they can come talk to an adult who will listen and help them
